If it was actually confiscated, that guy had a backup because you could see him holding it up at the end of the match, well after that photo and all the 小粉紅 commotion.
Can’t find a news article about this yet, but apparently there’s a video showing a (supposedly) staff member taking away a sign with just the outline of Taiwan island (without any text) from the hands of an audience during the medal ceremony of the male badminton doubles.

I’d love to see them try to confiscate all the items that have “Made in Taiwan” on them somewhere. All the electronics would have to go.
