The developers of Mortal Kombat have been hit with mass layoffs as the entire NetherRealm Studios’ mobile team has been let go.

First spotted via ResetEra, posts began appearing on LinkedIn stating that they were being let go and that the team was let go.

“Good morning internet. Unfortunately, yesterday NetherRealm’s mobile team was shut down,” quality assurance analyst Tony Lazzara posted. “A ton of very talented people were put out of work.”

“It hurts me to announce I’ve been laid off from NetherRealm Studios after about 10 years of working there,” Animator Elizabeth Ramirez said.

NetherRealm Studios is owned by Warner Bros. Games. Insider Gaming has reached out to both NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Games for comment on the division closure and layoffs. As of publishing, no response has been received.

At least 50 people have been impacted by these latest layoffs. This brings the year total to nearly 11,000 people let go from jobs in the gaming industry, that we know of.

Maybe they should add more microtransactions and make character designs blander. That'll sell more copies I feel like.

I hate how some in the industry report layoffs as if they're blameless, natural disasters.

I didn't even know they had a mobile division. Sucks for everyone affected. I hope they all manage to find something else. The gaming industry is in such a shambles right now.
