Back when a single BYAWW could derail a candidate. Simpler times.

When I was in high school in NH, barely 18, I volunteered my ass off for Howard Dean. I saw him speak in Wolfboro, where he spoke out against the war in Iraq, and it just... made a lot of sense to me. Met him twice. He was incredibly humble and kind. My jeep was COVERED in Dean stickers. I still have my Dean for President beanie!

Martin Sheen was a surrogate for him, and this was '04, when the West Wing was still crankin', and I met Mr. Sheen at an event in Conway, NH, where I was helping with sound and lighting at events. My shitty jeep broke down, and Mr. Sheen and his driver helped me jump my jeep in at 10 pm in the middle of a snowstorm.

I have this image in my head of him standing over the open hood of my car while I'm trying to crank the fucking thing over, attached with cables to his limo, with this look of concern on his face... he was SO KIND. I was too bashful to take a photo with him at the time, but I regret it now.

Dude drove up to bumfuck NH to deliver an impassioned speech about Howard Dean to a crowd of 100. What a guy!
