My boy has battens disease, a rare neurological disease that affects his balance. We adopted him back in 2020 once we learned about his balance issues, as I have balance problems myself. We use a harness to walk him, he kind of walks like a slinky dog with his back legs kind of bouncing all over the place, if he falls over, he pulls himself up.
Because of his disability, when he gets the zoomies, he LOVES to dig, so we drove 3 hrs to a lake with a beachfront with sand so he could dig like crazy, however, he could rarely took his eyes off the water, and if he did take his eyes off it, it was to smell the ground to smell all the wildlife.
The ironic thing was he didn't dig once. He had a blast, and I hope I can take him to a place closer to us, more often so he can experience this euphoria in his old age.
Live near the beach. One of my favorite things to see is how much dogs love it. So many of them zoom around with their tongues hanging out. Smile on their face.
Equally hilarious are the few dogs who won't go near the water. They hug the rocks at the edge of the sand. Like this.
