image for Rent monopoly crackdown continues as FBI raids corporate landlord for 18 Arizona properties

Cortland Biltmore Place is one of 18 properties in Arizona run by Cortland Management.

The Atlanta-based company's corporate office was raided in May 2024 as part of an FBI investigation into rental price-fixing scheme.

Federal agents raided a property management company operating in Arizona as part of an investigation into price-fixing rent, marking a distinct escalation in the renewed push to enforce consumer protection laws.

Cortland, an Atlanta-based property management company, joins nine other real estate conglomerates under investigation for creating a rental monopoly, resulting in rents across Arizona going up by more than 30% since 2022.

“The conspiracy allegedly engaged in by RealPage and these landlords has harmed Arizonans and directly contributed to Arizona’s affordable housing crisis,” said Mayes.

“This conspiracy stifled fair competition and essentially established a rental monopoly in our state’s two largest metro areas.”.

Anyone who suspects their current or former landlord was involved with the scheme can file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office here. »

A Georgia appeals court has halted the election subversion conspiracy case against Donald Trump and several of his co-defendants – a massive victory for the former president seeking to push further legal issues until 2025 if he can’t beat them altogether.

The new order filed on Wednesday from the Georgia Court of Appeals is the latest indication that a trial in the state-level Georgia election subversion case will not occur before the 2024 presidential election.

The appeals court is expected to rule on the disqualification issue by March 2025, though it could issue a ruling sooner. »

Elon Musk's efforts to bring internet access to a secluded Amazonian tribe have backfired, according to tribal elders who blame social media and pornography for tearing the community apart.

Nine months ago, the arrival of Starlink, Musk's internet service, brought the web to the remote Marubo tribe along the Ituí River for the first time.

In addition, some scientists have raised concerns about the potential impact of large satellite constellations, like Starlink, on Earth's magnetosphere. »
