Authorities found out there was a live World War 2 bomb underneath the houses, and decided on a quite extreme measure, to demolish the houses above. 1100 neighborhood residents were evacuated, while the bomb was safely dug up and detonated in a remote area on the Maasvlakte. Estimates are that 10% of bombs dropped in the European theater during WW2 were duds and didn't explode when dropped. That is a lot of bombs considering the allies dropped about 2.7 million tons of bombs.
