Being a mom with a kid fighting in a world war must have been very stressful, but having eight boys in the war must have stressed out that poor woman near death. Glad they all came back.

American soldiers actually had a pretty good chance of surviving WW2. There were around 16 million American enlisted, and only around 407,000 American deaths. Your odds of surviving in combat roles was a lot lower, but for an average soldier, your odds of surviving were around 98%.

So, assuming all 8 are independently average soldiers, the of all 8 coming home was around 85% (that's .98^8). So despite this seeming like a miracle, 4 out of 5 moms with 8 kids would've had all 8 come home.
