(Gray News) - Heroes don’t always wear capes, sometimes they wear Cartier.

A 27-year-old man snagged $14,000 Cartier earrings for under $14 due to a pricing error on the website.

Rogelio Villarreal, a Mexican citizen, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was scrolling through social media on Dec. 12, 2023, when he noticed the 18-carat rose gold Clash de Cartier earrings on the jeweler’s website.

Cartier made a mistake and listed the diamond earrings for 237 pesos ($14), instead of the correct price, 237,000 pesos ($14,000).

Villarreal said he “broke out in a cold sweat” after seeing the offer on the jeweler’s website, according to his social media post.

He decided to order not one, but two sets.

After a few months of going back and forth with the jeweler, Cartier offered him a bottle of champagne instead of the jewelry, AP reported.

“I have the worst luck in the world and I’ve never made any money, and what I have is because I bought it,” Villarreal wrote on social media.

Villarreal finally got the earrings last week, at his $14 price. He posted a video online of himself unboxing the luxury items.

He said he gave one of them to his mother.

“It feels great and it’s cool not to be the underdog for once in my life,” Villarreal wrote.

Nice. How generous of them. Glad he held out!

Diamonds are not even rare! They're extremely common!

The entire market is artificially drip fed to keep prices high.

I feel exactly zero sympathy for the diamond industry. I hope he gets away with it.
