The Rostov regional court has upheld the verdict in the case of so-called fakes about the Russian army of 72-year-old pensioner Yevgeniya Maiboroda. At the hearing, she asked the judge to "be merciful". Earlier she was sentenced to five and a half years in a general regime colony because of two reposts in "VKontakte". This is reported by "Mediazona".
At the end of January this year, Shakhty City Court found the pensioner guilty under the articles on spreading "fakes" about the Russian army and public calls for extremism.
The reason for the criminal case against Maiboroda was the reposting of two videos. The first was about the death of civilians in Mariupol. Because of this video, the pensioner was found guilty under the article on "fakes" about the army. The second video showed a girl with a knife in her hands raising her hand in a Nazi salute and threatening Putin. Because of this video Maiboroda was found guilty of public calls to extremism.
At the trial, the pensioner pleaded guilty, but denied that she had posted the videos on the grounds of political hatred. She explained her actions by the fact that her brother died under the rubble of a building in Dnipro, which was hit by shells. The human rights project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" recognized the pensioner as a political prisoner.
