“Sneaky” Bethesda Makes Subtle Change To Free Fallout 4 Update Wording

Fallout 4’s surprise free next-gen update was released on April 25. It makes the 2015 RPG a much better-looking game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. But, those who received their copies of Fallout 4 from PS Plus Essential and the now-defunct PS Plus Collection are currently unable to avail of the free update. Perhaps because of this, Bethesda has updated the wording of its announcement.

As spotted on Reddit, Bethesda has removed the “free for all players!” phrase from its Fallout 4 next-gen update announcement.

It’s unclear if the change is due to the PS Plus mix-up. However, Bethesda has confirmed that it’s working on fixing the issue.

Several users on Reddit are also reporting that they’ve updated their copies of Fallout 4 that they received from PS Plus Essential.

Aside from players on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, Bethesda also released a free update that includes stability improvements and fixes to quest and login issues on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. PC players also got a free update that includes several fixes and additional support for widescreen and ultra-widescreen monitors.

What’s New In the Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update?

The highlight of Fallout 4’s next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X are the two new graphic options: “Performance” and “Quality”.

On Performance, Fallout 4 will run at 60FPS in 4K with dynamic scaling. On Quality, it will run at 30FPS at 4K without dynamic scaling.

Unfortunately, as per Digital Foundry’s Thomas Morgan, the Quality mode is currently not working properly.

Bethesda originally confirmed the next-gen patch for Fallout 4 in 2022. It was initially set for a 2023 release but was later delayed to 2024. It arrived soon after the premiere of the live-action adaptation on Prime Video. This led to a noted surge in player numbers of the Fallout franchise.

Bethesda is currently working on Fallout 5 but it isn’t a priority. However, Microsoft is believed to be fast-tracking the game’s development.

So glad I bought these on GOG. I always download the installer just in case some crap like this happens.

They really got lazy with the PC version. No doubt, it's actually really great for consoles though, especially PS5 users who don't have access to good mods.

The ultrawide support is absolute dogshit, and now I cant use the old flawless widescreen fix, had to pirate an old version just to play it.
