The upcoming Open-World Adventure game Star Wars Outlaws and its’ publisher Ubisoft have been receiving heaps of criticism from the gaming community today for being one of the most expensive full-price releases in recent memory.

While the base game will be asking a hefty $70 from players, Ubisoft has made it incredibly clear with their Gold and Ultimate editions of the game that the full release package will cost more than that.

On the page of Ubisoft’s website highlighting what will be included in the game’s season pass, it is stated that the “Jabba’s Gambit” mission will not only be exclusive to season pass owners but will also be available at launch.

This has naturally caused many in the community to become outraged at Ubisoft, as Day One DLC missions have been a blight on the medium for nearly a decade now. This outrage has been accelerated by the absurd pricing of Star Wars Outlaws’ Gold and Ultimate editions.

The Gold edition of the game which comes with the season pass as well as three-day early access to the game will net players 109 dollars. Over $40 more than what the game normally costs. The Ultimate edition which comes with some extra cosmetics and a digital art book will cost you $130. Nearly twice the price of what the game normally costs!

These price tags are some of the largest in the game industry currently and are naturally causing many people to question if it is even worth purchasing. This is a commendable feat as Star Wars fans have grown accustomed to overpriced products over the years!

While it is unlikely that a company like Ubisoft will go back on this pricing or their Day One DLC practices, many are feeling like the game industry is reaching a tipping point on whether these practices are acceptable. Only the future can tell what’s in store for these AAA corporations.

Star Wars Outlaws is slated to release on August 30, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and on PC via the Ubisoft storefront.

Yea…I’ll stick to a $40 game that I haven’t been able to put down (Helldivers)

I love Star Wars but I’m so sick of the high price points for these popular game franchises that more often than not, underdeliver.
