Fuck memorials bring tears to my eyes. I’ll never forget the exact words written on the memorial at dieppe beach in France. “On August 19th 1942 at dawn, men of the royal canadian rifles fought and died striving to reach the heights beyond. You who are alive on this beach today, know those men died far from home so that others here and everywhere may freely enjoy life in gods mercy.” Or at least something along those lines.
