I actually grew up in a house like this. Huge tree in the middle of the driveway, though our driveway was considerably longer and wider; cars could drive past it on either side. As everyone has correctly noted, the driveway was intentionally built around the tree. My stepfather wanted it there. (We were the house’s original owners.) Sold it in the ’90s and the next owner had it removed. This is the house today, minus the tree.
Edit: Just realized I have a digitized Polaroid of the house when we lived there. (Yes, my stepfather briefly owned two Deloreans. He ordered them from different dealers and they both arrived at once. Quickly sold one.)
