Liz Cheney, a former Republican leader in the House of Representatives before she was booted from office by GOP voters for leading the investigation into former President Trump, has vowed to do everything possible to keep Trump from returning to the presidency.

On Wednesday, after Trump’s GOP rival, Nikki Haley, withdrew from the Republican presidential primary, Cheney announced her latest effort: a Political Action Committee aimed at helping President Biden get re-elected.

“The GOP has chosen,” Cheney tweeted. “They will nominate a man who attempted to overturn an election and seize power. We have eight months to save our republic and ensure Donald Trump is never anywhere near the Oval Office again. Join me in the fight for our nation’s freedom.”

The PAC is named “The Great Task,” after a speech given by Abraham Lincoln.

According to the PAC’s website: “Speaking at Gettysburg, Lincoln described our Great Task, ‘that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain. That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from this earth.’”

Cheney chaired the House Republican Conference, serving in the third-highest position in the House Republican leadership from 2019 to 2021, and was vice chair of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol.

She is the author of the new bestselling memoir “Oath and Honor,” her firsthand account of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection from inside the walls of Congress, and how she helped lead the investigation into how it happened.

During her time in Congress, Cheney was also a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the China Task Force, the Natural Resources Committee and the House Committee on Rules.
