MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said former President Donald Trump's performance in the Iowa caucuses should concern Trump and the Republican Party.

"If Barack Obama took four years off and then ran in a Democratic caucus in Iowa, would 50% of Democrats vote against Barack Obama?" said Scarborough on his show Tuesday. "No, no. They wouldn’t."

Trump won the caucus with 51% of the vote, 30% better than his nearest rivals Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.

"50% of people voting in the Iowa caucuses against a former president is bad news for that party’s prospects in the general election," said Scarborough. "Not good news."

General election polls have shown a tight race in a hypothetical matchup between Trump and President Joe Biden, with Biden leading slightly among likely voters.
