New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced a lawsuit against 17 bus and transportation companies helping to send asylum-seekers to the city as it deals with major budget issues surrounding the crisis.

The city is seeking $708 million in the lawsuit to cover costs for caring for migrants.

New York City has struggled to keep up with the financial burden of tens of thousands of migrants coming into the city since Abbott began Operation Lone Star.

Abbott said on Dec. 29 the state had sent "over 33,600" migrants to New York City since August 2022.

"He's also being a hypocrite because New York City is a self-declared 'sanctuary city,'" Abbott said.

The term "sanctuary city" refers to municipalities like New York City that are willing to defy federal immigration laws in order to protect undocumented immigrants. »

In a December 29 proclamation, President Joe Biden wrote that he had determined that Uganda, along with the Central African Republic, Gabon, and Niger, does not meet the requirements to continue benefiting from the trade deal.

“Accordingly, I have decided to terminate the designations of the Central African Republic, Gabon, Niger, and Uganda as beneficiary sub-Saharan African countries for purposes of section 506A of the Trade Act, effective January 1, 2024,” Biden wrote.

Child at Auburn school finds jar of cocaine on playground, tastes powder

AUBURN, Wash. — A jar of cocaine was found on a playground by a student at an Auburn elementary school last week.

According to a letter sent out to families of students at Evergreen Heights Elementary, the student found the powder in a glass jar and tasted its contents.

Testing done by the Auburn Police Department determined that the powder was cocaine. »
