Things are going from bad to worse for PlayStation and Insomniac as an entire PC dev build from Marvel’s Wolverine has leaked online after various details about the game surfaced within the last two days.
Why it matters: Marvel’s Wolverine was expected to launch as a PS5 exclusive. In an unfortunate turn of events, the game has somehow been made playable on PC before shipping on PS5.
The build is available for the public and can be downloaded for those willing to look hard enough.
It gives a comprehensive look at some important aspects of the game. We can see the title screen, which looks like a final version but could be altered. Combat appears to be the main focus of this build.
Videos floating around show Wolverine’s core gameplay, highlighting a brutal combat system with a close camera similar to the God of War games. As expected, Wolverine does not shy away from using his claws to decimate foes.
Other leaks from the build show wall-running and parkour mechanics like the Spider-Man games. A few stealth gameplay segments have also been leaked. Interestingly, Marvel’s Wolverine seems to use similar animations to Insomniac’s last games, but these may be placeholders since the game is still two years away.
From what we can gather, the game seems to be going for a highly immersive narrative, making it quite different from 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was purely focused on gameplay.
The PS3 game was great for its time, but Insomniac’s take on the character has shown a lot of promise. Following the leaks, we are more excited to see the finished version in 2026.
After Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac has various X-Men games exclusively coming to PlayStation.
Therefore, if you are a fan of these heroes, you won’t be disappointed with what Insomniac is planning for the next decade. In the meantime, the studio is also working on a Venom spin-off for 2023.
