This picture was taken under king Louis-Philippe, the last King of the French (his official title). He lost power to a revolution ten years later, in 1848 and the second French Empire under Napoléon III was proclaimed in 1852.
Paris was heavily transformed during the second empire. This is a precious picture of Paris before it became the Paris we know today.
