Surprisingly, they still let you do this. We were on a Delta flight a couple of weeks ago and the pilot invited me and my young son into the cockpit. The pilot actually got out of his seat and let us both sit down. They also gave us a pilot trading card lol. This was before the doors shut while we boarding FYI, definitely not during the flight.
