The armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas called for a truce in exchange for the release of some hostages during negotiations mediated by Qatar.

A spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades posted a message on social media on Monday. He said the group told Qatari mediators that it is ready to release up to 70 women and children in exchange for a five-day truce.

The spokesperson said that the Israeli side demanded the release of 100 women and children.

He accused Israel of hampering the negotiations by continuing its attacks on Gaza. He added that Israel is putting the lives of the hostages in danger.

The armed wing of Hamas has posted a video on social media. It claims that a female hostage was killed in an attack carried out by the Israeli side on Thursday.

The Israeli military has criticized Hamas for posting videos and photographs of the hostages. It says the group is using "psychological terror" and acting "inhumanely."

Could it be they offered 70 as that is the number left alive? I hope not but that could seriously be why. Just like when Russia asked for their hostages back Hamas agreed but they “couldn’t find them”.

People don't ask for ceasefires from positions of strength. They are in trouble.

Reminder that Hamas has broken every single cease fire that they have agreed to.
