Joe Biden Campaign Already Has More Followers Than Trump's on Truth Social

President Joe Biden's election campaign account on Donald Trump's Truth Social site now has more followers than the latter's own campaign account.

The Biden-Harris HQ account was set up on the former president's social network on Monday and had around 28,300 followers as of early Thursday morning, while Trump's campaign account—Team Trump—had around 23,800 followers and was set up in February 2022.

Trump has used Truth Social as his primary social network since February 2022, about a year after his Twitter account was suspended following the January 6 Capitol riot "due to the risk of further incitement of violence," the company said at the time.

Truth Social is owned by the Trump Media & Technology Group and the former president has billed it as an alternative to Twitter, which is now known as X. Trump's account was reinstated in November 2022 after the social media company was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk.

While the Biden-Harris HQ account now has more followers than Team Trump, the former president's own Truth Social account has a significantly greater reach with more than 6.45 million followers.

Newsweek has reached out to the Trump campaign via email for comment.

"After just two days, the Biden campaign already has more followers than the Trump campaign on Truth Social," Parker Butler, director of digital rapid response for Biden-Harris HQ, wrote on X.

The Biden campaign announced its decision to join Truth Social by sharing a screenshot from a Fox News Digital article on the subject to X on Monday.

"We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny," Biden-Harris HQ, the campaign's digital rapid response team, wrote.

"Follow us there for truths and retruths or whatever they call them," the post added and included a link to the new Truth Social account.

Speaking to Fox News Digital ahead of the launch of the new account, an unnamed senior Biden campaign aide said: "There's very little 'truth' happening on Truth Social, but at least now it'll be a little fun," the aide said.

The first post from Biden's Truth Social read: "Well. Let's see how this goes. Converts welcome!" The account description says: "Just the facts, Jack. A project of Biden-Harris 2024."

The Biden team has used its Truth Social account to share content critical of former President Trump, including videos showing other members of the Republican Party criticizing him.

The account made a number of posts on Wednesday about the House of Representatives' efforts to elect a new speaker. Republican Representative Jim Jordan failed to garner enough votes to win the job for the second time in two days.

"For the first time in modern history, the majority's nominee for Speaker has received less than 200 votes. Jim Jordan is making history!" Biden-Harris HQ posted.

Former President Trump posts frequently on his Truth Social and has used the platform to to strongly criticize public figures such as Special Counsel Jack Smith and General Mark Milley, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as Biden.
