I saw the next door neighbor's kid run over and killed by a hit and run when I was 5. We were playing together and she ran into the road (this was a quiet residential street) after a ball.
My dad jumped on his bike and ran down the guy's car to get his plates and call it in.
My mom worked with a woman who was driving to work one day and realized she accidentally hit a rabbit. She had a decision to make... let it live injured, or back over it to kill it.
She is a very nice person, and whether you agree with her or not, she decided to kill it. So she backed over the poor critter.
Then she looked in her rear view mirror to see the line of elementary school kids looking on in horror.

My neighbor ran over my dog when I was 8. I was standing right there. Talk about trauma.
