The next campaign in the long running Halo series is currently in development at 343 Industries, based on the latest information.

Speaking during Bitcast episode 269 on Seasoned Gaming, host Ains mentioned that development on a new Halo campaign is current underway at 343 Industries. While he said that he didn’t have anything specific to share, he said that this is part of the restructure that is building the next generation of Halo on Unreal Engine.

Based on Ain’s estimate, the earliest one would expect to see the next Halo single-player campaign, outside of Firefight and other things the studio is currently doing in Infinite, is a couple years from now, implying that the game is far from release.

The development of the next generation of games set in the Halo universe was previously confirmed via a recent job listing on Microsoft’s Careers portal. As per the listing, 343 Industries was looking to hire a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join its team in order to build the next generation of games and experiences in the Halo universe. The new recruit was expected to lead a team of 5 to 10 engineers to ensure delivery of products, features and services.

This wasn’t the only job listing that involved the development of the next Halo game, however. In the past month, two other listings were posted that also involved the next generation of games set in 343 Industries’ sci-fi universe. As suggested by these job listings and now Ains, the next Halo game project appears to be very early in development, so fans will likely have to wait for some time before they get to see it in action.

The aforementioned Halo Infinite is a 2021 first-person shooter game developed by 343 Industries and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game was released on December 8, 2021, for Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It serves as the sixth primary installment in the Halo series, succeeding Halo 5: Guardians (2015). The campaign focused on Master Chief and his conflict against the Banished on the Forerunner ringworld known as Zeta Halo. The multiplayer component is available as a free-to-play mode.

Hopefully it's better than the last campaign, which set up an awesome climax and then resolved it offscreen.
