Police are investigating the death of a senior Russian diplomat found dead in a hotel in Turkey, while experts are checking CCTV footage and fingerprints.

The new investigation follows a string of suspicious deaths involving officials and businessmen from Putin's Russia.

The death of 61-year-old Russian diplomat Nikolai Kobrynets is under investigation.

Nikolai Kobrynets reportedly died of a heart attack after checking into a hotel in Istanbul's Taksim district. Kobrynets was found dead in his hotel bed after colleagues expressed concern when he failed to show up for a morning meeting.

According to journalists, Kobrynets arrived in Istanbul to participate in a meeting of ambassadors. Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, the 61-year-old diplomat went to his hotel room and never left.

Police are investigating and his body was taken to the morgue of the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bahceliyevler Yenibosna.
