Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Thursday poked fun at Republicans, citing a character from the comedy television series The Office following the news that Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., was dropping his bid for Speaker of the House.

"I think somewhere in House rules it allows the acting Speaker Pro Tempore to do the Michael Scott 'I declare bankruptcy' thing and just give Dems the gavel," Ocasio-Cortez posted to X, referring the popular show. "That’s probably what’s best for everyone at this point."

Ocasio-Cortez's post sparked a response from her New York Congressional colleague Rep. George Santos, R, who said he though the post was "actually funny."

Santos has expressed frustrations with the Speaker race and said he would vote for "anybody," but Scalise after a lack of communication from the prospective Speaker.

With Scalise out, Republicans are left to consider whether or not to nominate Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, to be House Speaker.

Technically, the minority, Democrats, could nominate a candidate for the speakership, but due to the stark partisan divide in Congress, it is unlikely a Democrat would be elected by the majority party, the Republicans.

AOC isn't wrong. They have work to do. This playtime needs to come to an end.

Seriously. Any republicans that would vote for Hakeem wouldn’t have to caucus with the dems. What the GOP are afraid of is the bills brought to the floor that they’d expose themselves voting against. They want a GOP speaker so those bills never reach the floor, providing cover for them.

Belatedly editing my comment just to say I think the argument that a moderate republican defended the national security and functioning of the country is a strong argument during any primary. The GOP are a shit show right now - everyone knows that.
