apparently it is a zoroastrian custom to expose the dead to the elements and wild creatures, kind of a circle-of-life thing before disposing of the leftover bones and bits.

“Vultures have such strong acids in their stomachs that they can kill anthrax, botulism, cholera, rabies, and many more dangerous diseases. When vultures clean a carcass that has died of a serious disease, the disease is destroyed within their digestive system.” They don’t get a lot of attention from people because they’re “ugly” or associated with death. I think they are so beautiful and intricately crucial to conservation. Amazing birds!!!!!!
