Northbound Train Crossing Lake Sesso in Japan Location: Lake Sesso, Kawanehoncho Town, Shizuoka Prefecture Timestamp: 10:26 on August 23, 2023 Elevation: 496.4 m The Oigawa Railway's Ikawa Line, established in 1935, originally served as the primary transport route of construction materials and workers involved in dam and hydroelectric power plant projects along the Oigawa River. As dam construction concluded, the railway's role shifted. The Forestry Ministry then took charge of the railway, repurposing it for the transportation of harvested timber from logging sites close to Oigawa River. In 1959, Oigawa Railways assumed operations, marking a significant turning point for the Ikawa Line. They began focusing on transporting tourists to the hot spring resorts along the line, as well as catering to alpinists and hikers heading for the peaks of the Southern Alps National Park. The current rolling stock, as shown in this photo, consists of a low-height diesel locomotive positioned at the rear, which propels five small passenger coaches. These unusually small coaches were specially designed to navigate the small, narrow tunnels along the line that were originally constructed to accommodate construction materials and timber. Nice composition, I would go for a long exposure here have some movement. But I'm just a sucker for long exposure photos.
