A deputy mayor of Helsinki, Paavo Arhinmäki (Left), has been caught spray-painting graffiti on a rail tunnel wall in eastern Helsinki.
The matter was first reported by Helsingin Sanomat, and Arhinmäki subsequently posted an apology on his Facebook page.
He had been in a tunnel leading to the Vuosaari harbour when guards appeared, detained him, and called the police.
"It was stupid to think that nobody would be interested in our painting in that place," said Arhinmäki.
The deputy mayor is known as a supporter of street art, and in his youth decorated walls around Helsinki.
He said on Facebook that the work he was producing on Midsummer Eve was a tribute to Pasila, the neighbourhood where many of his earlier works appeared.
