Mali is the latest chance to watch a country slowly and agonizingly become a failed state.

Mali’s current military junta. Which took over in a coup in 2021, has again and again been making decisions that seem to be aimed at making things as easy as possible for the jihadists infesting the country. It’s like they’re trying to speed run the collapse of their country.

The main saving grace that’s keeping Mali afloat is the fact that Al Qaeda and IS are fighting each other as much as they are the government and Azawad militias. If these peacekeepers leave though, we could start seeing big cities like Gao and Menaka fall.
