Live A Live sequel was planned during the DS era, hope for the future

According to Live A Live director Takashi Tokita, the RPG almost received a sequel during the DS era.

Tokita shared that information in a recent interview with Famitsu. He said that while there were plans for a new game, “it was hard to display the passion of Live A Live fans to the company, and so we ended up in an impasse.”

Before, Tokita-san said he attempted to resurrect Live A Live, but it didn’t go well. Tokita: In the Nintendo DS era, we had tried to plan a sequel, but it was hard to display the passion of Live A Live fans to the company, and so we ended up in an impasse. We finally made it for that (the HD-2D remake) this time. I think one of the reasons we succeeded is definitely the HD-2D presentation. Keeping the impression of the Super Nintendo era while modernizing it was a big factor. We had also thought about doing a full 3D remake instead (of the HD-2D remake), but we considered the fans, and decided that it wouldn’t be quite what they wanted. Therefore, I think this Live A Live HD-2D remake was a result of many cogs happening to align.

While Live a Live didn’t receive a sequel back in the day, it could happen in the future. Tokita said in a Q&A video this week that if the remake sells one million copies, he’d be “very confident” in bringing up Live a Live 2 with Square Enix. Oddly, he only called out the Steam and PlayStation release – not the Switch version, which has already been around for a year.

A sequel? To one of the most innovative RPGs on the SNES? A game that had such a cult following that it was officially re-released on Switch despite the poor sales?

Welp, I'm down. Even though I'm the one who advocates for boycotting Nintendo until they start showing some respect for their modders, fangame devs, and YouTubers.

Wouldn't it be "Live A Evil"?
