Smoke from Canadian wildfires has been filtering the sun, making it easier to shoot objects that are in front of it. I took this photo from nearly two miles away from the lighthouse using a 500mm lens and cropping it a bit

That is an absolutely phenomenal pic! I used to live in Portland and spent many happy afternoons flying a kite there.

I'm always curious about shots like this. I know the sun looks that big because of telephoto lens connection, but what final length did you have to use for this effect, how far do you have to be from the subject?
