My layperson's view of the diplomaspeak is,

US: Stop selling weapons & munitions to Russia. We know you're doing it and we warned you secretly when we told you we knew you were doing it earlier.

SA: Stop ratting us out to the world! We know you know (as discussed!) but we need time to set up the enquiry to change this from a state issue to an individual's corruption issue.

My personal opinion is that if this is indeed the cases, the outcome will have much greater consequences for SA than the battle in Ukraine. While it is currently unclear what if anything had been shipped, it is unlikely US will allow further shipments, it's direct influence would be finite on upcoming battles.

SA on the other hand faces at the very least US sanctions and potentially much more. Being a geopolitical forum, I want to share it here and get some feedback. What could SA possibility gain from such a risky move. In my mind I could not come up with a reasonable scenario where the benefit out weighs the risk.

SS. The US has accused South Africa of supplying arms to Russia in a covert naval operation, escalating a foreign policy crisis for President Cyril Ramaphosa over the country’s ties to the Kremlin and position on the Ukraine war.
