Also worth remembering: a man's fear of opening up isn't always unfounded. There are very real consequences for some of the men who show their vulnerability, and the stigma against doing so isn't all in the man's head.
Society punishes men who don't comply with "the rules". Encouraging men to talk about their problems is only half the battle. We should be working to create a society where this is actually safer for men to do, and men will open up as a consequence.

The worst part is like 16 I was always making little promises to make it to the next hurdle. “Don’t do it until you drive”, “don’t do it until you have sex”, “don’t do it until you graduate high school”, etc etc Now as a middle aged man I’ve kind of run out of things to promise anymore. “Don’t do it, enjoy another year of crippling debt and terrible relationship” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it
