CD Projekt’s The Witcher co-op game being developed by The Molasses Flood has potentially been rebooted, based on the latest information.

In its latest report, the management board of CD Projekt has revealed that the original concept of The Witcher co-op game, codenamed Project Sirius, has been evaluated on the basis of its scope and commercial potential, and ongoing work is now being done by developer The Molasses Flood on formulating a new framework, suggesting that the project has been rebooted.

The value of expenses incurred by the end of 2022 amounts to approximately 7.65 million US Dollars, which will factor into the the company and CD Projket Group’s financial results for the year 2022. The value of expenses incurred in January and February 2023 amounts to approximately 2.17 million US Dollars, which will, accordingly, factor into the financial results for the first quarter of 2023.

Previously, details regarding The Witcher co-op game were revealed via a series of job listings for various positions at The Molasses Flood.

Based on a job listing for the position of senior multiplayer designer, it is set to be an action game that will feature both co-op and PvE, and will have a class system in addition to multiple game modes and social activities. Another listing for the position of senior world builder states that the game will feature a “stylized” world. Furthermore, a listing for the position of senior combat designer mentions that the game will feature various types of enemies and weapons.

It is also stated in a job listing for the position of narrative director that The Witcher game from The Molasses Flood will include branching a non-linear story, with cinematic storytelling and voiced dialogue. Another listing for the position of technical game designer revealed that it will be an action adventure game that is heavy on systems, including procedural generation.

I mean, even if CDPR just build a re-skinned Monster Hunter it’ll probably do alright

I can see a dark alternative that’s essentially an online game where you “build your own Witcher, form Witcher pacts with your friends, and slay monsters” and it just becomes the future of The Witcher, like ESO did with The Elder Scrolls.
