P.S. Yes, I was aware of the Smashing Pumpkins album title containing "melon collie". But my experience with that term goes much further back, to when I was in 4th grade (in the 1970s) and our teacher read us a story called "The Melancholy Inn". I didn't know the word "melancholy", so while she was reading, I was picturing an inn that had a sign showing a melon and a collie.
