Police surround Michigan State University after an active shooting on campus on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023. —

MSUPD interim deputy chief Chris Rozman has confirmed that the shooter has died of a self-inflicted wound. The suspect is a 43-year-old male and not affiliated in any way with MSU. The shelter-in-place order has been lifted and there is no longer a threat on campus .

Three people are confirmed dead in a mass shooting at multiple campus buildings at Michigan State University. At least five people have been confirmed injured. All five victims are in critical condition.

MSU police sent a community-alert at 11:38 p.m.

"This is an MSU ALERT from the Michigan State University Police Department regarding an incident on the East Lansing campus," the alert said. "A person is actively shooting at the East Lansing campus. Follow the Run, Hide and Fight guidelines. Secure in place; turn cell phones to silent; remain quiet. Suspect description: short black male, red shoes, jean jacket, ball cap."

Sparrow Director of Media Relations John Foren confirmed there are five people being treated at Sparrow Hospital. He could not disclose their conditions. Witnesses sent a video to The State News showing a body bag and a stretcher on the scene.

In a press conference, police officers on the scene said some of the injuries were life-threatening.

Shots were reported fired at Berkey, Hubbard, East McDonel, Akers, Bessey, Wonders and Phillips Halls, the Union and IM East.

Brody Hall, Snyder and Phillips Hall, Mason Hall, Abbott Hall, Landon Hall, Berkey Hall and the MSU Union have all been secured by MSU Police.

MSU police tweeted at 9:34 p.m. that “IM East is being secured. It appears there is only one suspect at this time.”

FBI Detroit said in a tweet that “the FBI is responding to assist in the reports of an active shooter on the Michigan State University campus.”

MSU Police is continuing to update the community at the beginning hour.

I kept seeing people say MSU is a big campus, so I checked it out on Google Maps. They aren't kidding, that place is absolutely massive. Pretty understandable that the cops are having trouble tracking this person down when just the built-up parts of the campus cover several square miles of land.
