Insomniacâs Wolverine game is reportedly targeting a mature rating and could release as soon as next year.
Thatâs according to Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb, who shared supposed details on the in-development project during a live stream on Thursday.
âHard R is what theyâre going for⦠thatâs one of the concepts that Iâve heard,â Grubb said. âI think an M-rated Wolverine could work, I think an M-rated superhero game could work, and this is probably the right character.â
He later added: âThey will [also] avoid having any links or anything that evokes the Fox movies â they want it to stand on its own. I was trying to nail down the setting and have heard it will start before he joins the X-Men, which also makes sense for a Wolverine gameâ¦
âMaybe the surprising thing for me is that Iâve heard two different dates⦠Iâve heard as early as fall 2024, which would be wild. Insomniac is putting out Spider-Man 2 this fall⦠Iâve also heard internally theyâre still very much talking about 2025, so letâs not be surprised if that’s what happens.
âBut if anyone can pull off releasing two major, triple-A, massive games in back-to-back years, it is Insomniac.”
The Wolverine game was announced during a PlayStation Showcase event in September 2021, as was Insomniacâs Spider-Man 2, at which point it claimed the title was in âvery early developmentâ.
The game will be a standalone title directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, who were the creative leads on Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Announcing the Wolverine game, Insomniacâs head of franchise strategy and studio relations Ryan Schneider said: âIn the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit.
âEven though Marvelâs Wolverine is very early in development, from what Iâve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay, the team is already creating something truly special.â

I should hope so. If we can't chop off arms, heads and legs in this game TF are they even doing?

I mean if it isn’t M don’t bother, right? If there was ever a game that needs dismemberment like Witcher 3 it’s a Wolverine game
