The hidden book trend in Braidwood has been going for three years Books are hidden in nooks and crannies all over town for kids to find.

The books are hidden in shop windows, parks and around the streets.

The concept is simple and follows the global painted rocks craze, where kids hunt for painted rocks around their local neighbourhood.

Mum of 10, Samantha Dixon, started the trend after seeing it on a community Facebook page overseas.

"It's lovely to watch the little kids' faces when they find the books.

Ms Dixon started hiding children's books around town as a way to give books a new life and bring joy to local kids.

"Aside from getting books into the hands of kids who deserve them, I can't imagine a home without books," she said. »

NEW YORK, Jan 3 (Reuters) - Southwest Airlines (LUV.N) has been sued by a passenger who said it failed to provide refunds to passengers left stranded when an operational meltdown led the carrier to cancel more than 15,000 flights late last month.

Capdeville, a Marrero, Louisiana resident, is seeking damages for passengers on Southwest flights canceled since Dec. 24, and who did not receive refunds or expense reimbursements.

The case is Capdeville v Southwest Airlines Co, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana, No. 22-05590. »

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Wednesday the deployment of a frigate armed with hypersonic Zircon cruise missiles — a type of weaponry he says has "no analogues" — to the Atlantic Ocean.

"The ship is equipped with the latest hypersonic missile system — 'Zircon' — which has no analogues," Putin said during a video conference with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Igor Krokhmal, the ship’s commander, according to Reuters.

Shoigu said the ship will travel through the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea in addition to the Atlantic, Reuters added. »

Jan 3 (Reuters) - A former Colorado funeral home owner was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Tuesday for defrauding relatives of the dead by dissecting 560 corpses and selling body parts without permission.

She operated a funeral home, Sunset Mesa, and a body parts entity, Donor Services, from the same building in Montrose, Colorado.

"Hess and Koch used their funeral home at times to essentially steal bodies and body parts using fraudulent and forged donor forms," prosecutor Tim Neff said in a court filing. »
