Los Angelino here, it's actually pretty clear here most of the time now. The amount of smog isn't even remotely close to the stereotypes people have about LA. We've come a very long way from the 70s/80s. California's strict emission standards work.

EDIT: A lot of you are confusing the marine layer with smog. The "june gloom" marine layer is super common here, especially around LAX in the summer months. It's water vapor that usually burns off by the afternoon. If you are flying into LAX and everything is very grey, this is probably why.
