Atlus Teases Several Unannounced New Titles for 2023

Famitsu has published an article featuring New Year’s greeting cards from 68 video game companies. Along with the different card illustrations, each game company has congratulatory messages and comments for 2023.

Atlus is among the selected game developers and, in addition to the previously published New Year’s card, the company has issued a statement about the coming year.

Along with an overview of their releases in 2022, Atlus’ message reveals that the company is planning to prepare several unannounced new titles for 2023.

Happy New Year! Thank you very much for your support and patronage for the remastered version of P4U2 in 2022, the Nintendo Switch version of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Soul Hackers 2, and the remastered version of Persona 5 Royal. Thanks to your support, the remastered edition of P5R achieved 1 million sales within one month of its release, and P5R as a whole has surpassed 3.3 million units worldwide. In 2023, we will start with the remastered releases of P3P and P4G, and we are also preparing several new unannounced titles. Please look forward to it!

Atlus made a similar statement for their New Year’s 2019 greetings card. That year featured the following new game announcements:

In a recently published article highlighting Atlus developer aspirations for 2023, Shinjiro Takada of Atlus’ 1st Creative Department (SMT, Soul Hackers 2, Etrian Odyssey, etc.) talked about wanting to express gratitude towards the fans for the 31st anniversary of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Kazuhisa Wada of the Persona Team implied that the team is moving forward with their projects more solidly.

In July 2021, an interview with Atlus Senior Managing Director and General Manager of the Consumer Software Division Naoto Hiraoka revealed that the company had around five or six ongoing internal development lines, with around 10 if collaborations with other companies were included.

In September 2020, a job listing for Atlus’ Persona Team was made, searching for a technical artist with Unreal Engine experience. This could imply a Persona series title using the Unreal Engine in the future.

In October 2022, with the end of the Persona series 25th anniversary celebrations, Atlus Persona Team director Kazuhisa Wada discussed that there were many things he would like to tell the public in regards to Persona series projects, but that he would need to share them at the right time, in the future.

The “Next Stage” of the Etrian Odyssey series was teased in July 2018. With only a brief teaser trailer, a substantial update for this upcoming project has not been given yet.

An undisclosed Vanillaware project was teased with the release of the 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Prologue demo released in March 2019. No details have been given on this project since.

In December 2020, the creative producer and chief director Katsura Hashino stated that the development of the new fantasy RPG Project Re Fantasy had reached its “climax.”

In December 2021, Hashino reiterated that development was at its climax, and discussed his excitement to reveal the project to the public. Since then, there has been no additional word on the project.
