Ukraine on Monday, December 26, plans to raise the issue of Russia’s future presence in the UN Security Council .

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleby on the air of the telethon . According to him, Russia has no right to be in this organization.

“Tomorrow we will officially take this position. Our question is very simple: does Russia have the right to remain a permanent member of the UN Security Council and be in the United Nations in general? We have a convincing and reasoned answer – no, it does not,” he said. Kuleba.

The minister added that the question of the future of Russia after its defeat in Ukraine is no longer forbidden for discussion in world diplomacy.

“These issues are not yet discussed at press conferences and in public statements by leaders of states and governments, but at a lower level, people are already asking the question – what should Russia become so that it does not pose a threat to peace and security,” Kuleba said.

Russia in the UN Security Council

Russia is one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council. This gives her the opportunity to block any decisions in this structure. And besides that, Russian so-called diplomats use this platform to promote their propaganda. Sometimes it is so ridiculous that even the diplomats of other states do not have the strength to listen to this Russian nonsense.

Given the brutal war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, in September President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the international community to strip Russia of its permanent membership on the UN Security Council and expel it from all international organizations. According to him, a state that right now is implementing a genocidal policy, keeping the world one step away from a radiation catastrophe and at the same time threatening nuclear strikes, cannot remain a permanent member of the UN Security Council with the right of veto.

But in the US, two lawmakers who head an independent government human rights organization have submitted a resolution to Congress calling on President Joe Biden to withdraw Russia from the UN Security Council. And although the UN Charter does not contain any provisions on the elimination of a permanent member of the Security Council, however, this is possible if you challenge the status of the Russian Federation as the heir to the seat of the Soviet Union.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says that Ukraine is preparing to prove the illegality of Russia’s presence in the United Nations Security Council . “Russia takes the place of a permanent member of the UN Security Council without proper legal grounds due to an openly fraudulent scheme that took place 31 years ago,” Kuleba said.

Good luck with that. None of the permanent Security Council members has a clean criminal record, even with recent history in mind.

The seat was granted to the USSR, not RU... so there is that.

Is there any legitimate claim to the claim that the UNSC doesn't actually mention the Russian Federation, all the Docs say USSR?
