This was taken in early October this year. The snow has been ridiculous in New Zealand the past few months, so was really lucky in capturing a shot up here.

With the Milky Way core region below the horizon until the end of January, I wanted to see if I could capture some of the Orion Nebula, as it's an appropriate time to do so. I didn't expect any auroral activity, so that was a nice little bonus. It was apparently quite a strong display, as this spot is relatively far north and quite sheltered, so you don't often get displays showing much here.

EXIF:

Gear used: Nikon Z7 (stock), Nikkor Z 14-24 f2.8S, Skywatcher Star Adventurer Pro

Settings:

Foreground: 2 x 3 frames x 1 row, each frame shot at 14mm, f/4.5, ISO6400, 15 second exposures. Stacked to reduce noise in Photoshop prior to merge in PTGui.

Sky: 7 frames x 3 rows (roughly), each frame shot at 21.5mm, f/3.2, ISO1250, 30 second exposures. Merged together in PTGui. PixInsight was used for processing.

Sky (Orion region): 3 frames stacked, each shot at 21.5mm, f/3.2, ISO1250, 60 second exposures. Merged into sky pano with PTGui. PixInsight was used for processing.
