Could someone ELI5 the president's proposal and why it is bad? I read the explanation in the article but had a hard time understanding what he wants to do because I'm not familiar at all with the Mexican governmental structure. I read that he wants to remove unelected legislators and make something elected by the public instead of appointed by legislators. Which both seem good on the face of things?

The mayor of Mexico City (one of the president's biggest lackeys) told the press with a straight face that was 12,000 people.

By the way, that was just a part of the total crowd, it stretched back like that a good bit.
