Everyone's fixated on the Trump hat, which may or may not be illegal. But the shirt has the name of a Republican candidate in Ohio, Bill Johnson. That's a bigger issue, to put it mildly.

In my city, the registrar asked us to not even wear red or blue just to avoid the appearance of impropriety

Edit: not because they weren't allowed, but just to avoid having to slow down lines over someone making a fuss over something silly

edit 2: since this is getting a lot of attention:

If you want to ensure the election system works or if you don't trust your city to run elections or if you can take off a Tuesday in November or if you want to make a few extra bucks or if you like giving people stickers or if you are concerned for the safety of older officers of election or if you want to see for yourself what happens to all those ballots

please contact your city registrar and look into becoming an officer of election. I've done three elections now and will continue to do them. The work is long but worthwhile and it is a nice break from the normal work routine.

I wasn't even allowed in the building to vote in 2018 because I was wearing a shirt with an Army ROTC logo on it in Ohio. Got kicked out within 30 seconds and had to turn my shirt inside out to hide the logo in order to be let back in. Crazy how different the rules are enforced by polling place.
