Nancy Pelosi Responds to Trump, Musk Conspiracy Theories: ‘It’s Really Sad for the Country’

Nancy Pelosi spoke with CNN’s Anderson Cooper Monday night in her first interview since her husband, Paul Pelosi, was brutally attacked.

The House Speaker began the interview by saying she “absolutely” agreed with President Joe Biden, who tied the assault on her husband to the Jan. 6 insurrection. Pelosi also confirmed that Paul’s operation was a “success” but said it is only one part of the recovery, as the head injury was “drastic.”

When Cooper asked Pelosi what she thought about the conspiracy theories being pushed by former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, Pelosi said, “It’s really sad for the country that people of that high visibility would separate themselves from the facts and the truth in such a blatant way.”

Cooper then asked if there is “enough common ground among Americans to come together,” as “people on all sides would agree that it does not seem sustainable.”

Pelosi challenged his phrasing, and replied: “I wouldn’t say, ‘On all sides,’ because the fact is this is a one-sided assault on our democracy—an assault on the credibility and integrity of our elections and the rest. There has to be some adult supervision on the Republican side in order to say, ‘Enough.’”

The Speaker also echoed a sentiment she has voiced in the past. “We need a strong Republican party in our country,” she told Cooper. “The GOP is a strong Republican party and [has] done great things for our country. They should take pride in that, instead of yielding to a cult, to a thug.”

Pelosi was not at home at the time of her husband’s attack, which she called “a flame that was fueled by misinformation.” The suspect, David Wayne DePape, faces six state charges in connection to the alleged attack on the Speaker’s husband including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, residential burglary, false imprisonment, and threatening the life or serious bodily harm to a public official. DePape’s public defender, Adam Lipson, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

At the time of his arrest, DePape had a long history of sharing extreme ideas online and used his Facebook page to promote content that claimed that the 2020 election had been stolen, as well as transphobic memes and links to anti-vaccination websites.

Towards the end of her interview, Pelosi referenced the consequences of election misinformation, and said, “I do believe our democracy is in danger.”

Despite her concerns, Pelosi said she feels “optimistic” about the midterm elections. “It’s up to the people,” she said. “Whatever happens, we will respect the results of the election.”

Hey, remember like 2 weeks ago when some guy who bought into all those conspiracy theories broke into her house intending to assassinate her?

And, upon not finding her there, put her husband into the hospital with head/brain injuries?

And the entire Republican party's reaction was, "lol don't care she deserves it."

And Musk, newly minted owner of Twitter, tweeted out that this would-be assassin was actually her husband's gay drug addled lover?

And hey, just for funsies, remember like 1 year and 10 months ago when a whooooole lotta these same conspiracy-addled Trump devotees broke into her workplace intending to assassinate her? And her colleagues?

This isn't sad. It's dangerous. And sooner than later, one of these assassination attempts will succeed.

It is really sad. An 80 y.o. man was hit in the head with a hammer by a crazy man and they can't even feel empathy for 1 moment. They can't even condemn the violence in a tweet? It takes your breath away.
