The campaign in the latest entry in the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare 2, requires a persistent internet connection in order to run on PC.

Those who pre-ordered their copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 were given early access to the single-player campaign on October 20, 2022. However, PC players quickly learned that it is not possible to play the campaign without a persistent internet connection.

Given that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is available on both Battle.net and Steam, it was assumed that the campaign would work in offline mode on the latter. However, this is not the case, and a stable internet connection is required to run the campaign, even in Steam offline mode. Call of Duty fans on PC are disappointed to see the presence of always online DRM in Modern Warfare 2, as it is generally considered an anti-consumer practice.

Unfortunately, it’s not just an unstable internet connection that can prevent PC players from playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 campaign. In the scenario where the game’s servers are down for maintenance, players would likely still be booted out of their session.

Previously, it was reported that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 may receive campaign DLC in the future. Twitter user TheGhostOfHope, who has been a pretty reliable source for Call of Duty related leaks in the past, has revealed that the latest entry in the series, Modern Warfare 2, will receive DLC for its campaign in late 2023. They also stated that this story DLC will be bundled with the paid DLC map pack they had revealed earlier.

According to the leak, the aforementioned map pack will be made available as paid content a year after Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2’s release, and will feature a selection of classic maps. Currently, there is no word on the pricing of this campaign DLC and map pack that is said to be bundled and released as substantial year 2 content for the game.

It’s because it’s out a week early right now, I assume to verify accounts that have pre-ordered the game and give them access

Same as with Modern Warfare 1. They banned my account and I never got to play the campaign I paid money for.

And no, I didn’t cheat, it’s impossible to contact Activision support about bans, the ‘best’ help they provided was to advise to ask for a refund from the shop where I bought it.

Activision is a terrible company and extremely anti-consumer.

Just Activision being Activision
