Ukraine needs more modern air and missile defense systems to save innocent lives.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Twitter after Russia’s massive missile attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Russia continues its missile terror against civilians in Zaporizhzhia. 12 strikes on residential areas overnight, at least 12 killed and many more wounded. We urgently need more modern air and missile defense systems to save innocent lives. I urge partners to speed up deliveries,” Kuleba wrote.

A reminder that last night Russian troops used tactical air forces against civilians in Zaporizhzhia, having fired 12 missiles. Most projectiles hit apartment blocks and detached houses. Currently, a total of 12 civilians have been reported killed and 49 injured, including six children.

The US does have great air defense platform. It’s called an F-22.

Missile and drone interception are pretty weak, but like others have said, the US took the stance that the best defense is a good offense.

I am positive that area-denial systems for drones and missiles will be coming hot off the MIC lines in the near future given what we’ve seen in Ukraine.

The sad reality is that NATO, the US especially, doesn't have really good air defence systems in sufficient quantity to aid Ukraine much. Our doctrine is air superiority through massive air power, not ground based suppression. We don't have anything like the S-3/400 produced in any real quantity like Russia does, but we are real good at destroying them.

We have patriot systems but those are bloated overpriced pigs. C-Rams are very close range and also still expensive. There's a few others, but nothing that's going to blanket the country in air defence.

I think they are stuck with infantry in the field with stingers and a cup of coffee honestly.
