Democratic Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman enjoys a substantial 10-point lead over his Republican opponent Dr. Mehmet Oz in the state's U.S. Senate, according to a new poll.

The Marist Poll published on Monday shows 51 percent of registered voters in Pennsylvania support Fetterman, compared to 41 percent who back Oz, with seven percent undecided.

The Pennsylvania race is one of the most closely watched in the country and could be crucial in deciding control of the Senate where Democrats appear on course to keep control of the chamber.

Oz performed slightly better among voters who said they would definitely vote in November, garnering 44 percent support to Fetterman's 51 percent, while four percent were undecided.

The Marist Poll was conducted from September 19 to 22 among 1,356 Pennsylvania adults, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percent. Those adults included 1,242 registered voters and that group had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

The survey also polled 1,043 voters who definitely plan to vote in November and the margin of error for that group was plus or minus 3.8 percent.

The poll also found that Pennsylvania voters had a more favorable view of Fetterman than Oz, with 46 percent of registered voters viewing the Democrat favorably and 41 percent unfavorably, while 13 percent were unsure or had never heard of him.

By contrast, just 32 percent of Pennsylvania registered voters had a favorable view of Oz compared to 52 percent who had an unfavorable view of him and 16 percent who weren't sure or hadn't heard of him.

The most recent figures from Marist are consistent with a slew of recent polls that show Fetterman leading Oz. Poll tracker FiveThirtyEight's analysis also rates the Democrat as favored to win and gives him a 79 percent chance of being elected.

Oz, a celebrity surgeon who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, is seeking to replace Republican Senator Pat Toomey, who is retiring this year.

While Democrats remain slightly favored to win the Senate in FiveThirtyEight's current analysis, the results are expected to be very close in November and the Pennsylvania contest could be crucial to deciding control of the chamber.

Fetterman and Oz will debate on October 25 in the only scheduled debate ahead of the November election. Mail-in voting for the Pennsylvania Senate race has already begun.

The Democrat had faced scrutiny and concerns about his health after a stroke in May, with the Oz campaign suggesting he was avoiding a debate with the Republican.

Newsweek has asked the Fetterman and Oz campaigns for comment.

If you are a Pennsylvania resident, please please please turn out and vote for Fetterman. Ignore this horse race style journalism, don't take anything for granted, and get out there. This race could tighten up in the next 6 weeks as more people start paying more attention, and things could go badly. It has certainly happened before.

Fetterman has that charisma oz lacks. And he knows what he is talking about. Oz doesn't.
