Great pic. The wave breaking in the foreground is sharp and crisp, while the multi-colored sky fills the top half of the image, with the sun low in the horizon. The dark silhouette of the swimmer on the right side adds excellent balance to the bright spot of sun opposite them.

Another example of balance in this photo is the use of color. The lower half of the image - the wave breaking - is a satisfying bluish hue while the top half of the image starts in the red/yellow spectrum to create separation, before gradually fading to pale blue sky at the very top. There is a dynamic sense of movement in the wave, threatening to wash out the image with the proximity and splash.

The way the breaking wave marks a boundary, frame, and leading line for the image’s main subjects is an amazing combination of skill and serendipity. I also love the use of DoF, with the sharpest area being the part of the wave, right in the center of the photo, that kicks up the spray that frames the sun. This gives the foreground and background the perfect amount of bokeh. What kind of lens did you shoot with?

So, yeah. Great photo. I’ll probably save to my pics so I can admire it in the future (am hobbyist photographer).
