Just wanted to point out that nearly every example I've heard of this being really bad is from a US perspective.

I'm in the UK and our group is very much not religious. In fact most of my group are atheists, and we just say whatever works for most of us. Newbies are told pretty religiously (lol) to 'ignore the 'God thing' for a while and to not focus on the religious aspect.

I also tend not to attend religiously, but I'd be lying if I said that I could have done it without them.

Like, I'm not planning on arguing with people about the pros and cons, there are definitely a handful of each, but I'm very fortunate to have found my group and the individuals within there have been life saving 🙂

I realized I was an alcoholic and I was going to lose everything if I didn't stop drinking, so I did. I don't even remember when really, it has been like 5 years now. I tried AA and didn't like the religion so I didn't go back, but I do wish I had a 5 year chip or something.

Although for me, my life got so much better when I stopped that I never had the urge for a drink after the first couple of months. I know some people can relapse after years, but now I just put alcohol in the same category as shrimp, an allergy that could lead to death. Don't consume.
